Counselling Unit

After assembly presentations students at West Hatch High School Chigwell UK began raising money to provide a small building to be used for counselling and support at St Mary’s College in Hambantota, Sri Lanka. This venture began with a “Buy a Brick- build a Life” campaign in which students were invited to “buy” a brick for £1 and add their names to labels on the “building”. Money was added to the fund by students raising money as they were sponsored to do various “strange” events.

Then during a trip to Hambantota a small ceremony took place to begin the building project and lay the foundation stone. (DVD + pictures). The building was ready to be furnished by February 2008. Funds were raised to furnish this building.

Tsunami affected children and staff joined Keith and Pam Pollen for the ceremony with the Principal and Vice Principals, the Planning Officer and local Bank Manager.

Students with Pam, School Principal and Anglican Priest.

One of the teaching staff , encouraged by the counselling courses provided by the charity which Pam presented, went onto train further so that students could receive ongoing help .  The Counselling unit therefore was used by the school thought the term.
